Manhunt underway for man accused of shooting to death police officer in Mexico

A manhunt has begun for a man accused in the killing of a police officer near Mexico City on Friday.

Authorities say that the suspect, who is believed to be from a nearby village, entered the police station armed with a pistol.

The officer was shot in the chest.

The man was detained by police, according to state media.

The attack was the third in Mexico in a month, the latest in the capital of Mexico City, which has seen a spate of shootings.

The violence follows the death in January of a 32-year-old man who had been on parole for his role in a 2009 attack on police that left nine people dead.
